Sarya grew up in Evereska with her parents, who had a small medicinal shop. They were well respected and humble healers who were dedicated to serving their community, and being supportive parents. She went on to study botany as she got older so that one day she could better support her parent's business.

 

Close to adulthood (around 78 years old), she and her parents were traveling to go foraging out of the country for some rare herbs, when they were caught in the crossfire of a battle between two groups of people, and her parents were killed. She continued on to the next village that was safe, a humble human one where she sought the help of a townsguard there named Urreayen, or Yen, and his sister, Evaeyl, or Eva. Both of them were disillusioned with the corruption of the local government and took off with Sarya to take her back to Evereska instead.

 

She was quick to fall in love with Yen, who had taken an interest in learning about herbalism and magic from her. She taught him well, and together they lived happily continuing to run the shop with Eva. Eva eventually got married and moved away, and being unable to have children themselves, Sarya and Yen adopted a kenku named Vivi, and a human half-elf named Rae.

 

As Yen began to age, Sarya passed the shop onto one of their associates, and they moved into the Reaching Woods, which was their favorite place to forge for magical items, creatures, and healing herbs. By this point, Vivi had become a scholar, and Rae had become an acolyte. Eventually, Sarya outlived all of them, but she had no intention of returning to society. Instead, she stayed in her little home with Yen buried nearby. Their connection even after death remained strong, and her body slowly began to decay alongside Yen's, until the point where she was only just a skeleton.

 

No longer able to leave the Reaching Woods due to her nightmarish appearance, she laid herself down to put herself into an eternal trance beside him. Years passed and her little cottage home in the woods became overgrown and the path nearly erased by the ever-changing landscape, when suddenly her home was raided and their resting place disturbed. She broke from her trance to find that not only were the treasures in her home taken but Yen's body had been disturbed. Filled with an incomprehensible amount of rage, she quietly set out to get revenge on whoever it was that ruined her rest and disrespected Yen's resting place.

Recently she discovered a key into defeating the man who robbed her husband's resting place, Manshoon, but it was a trap. She was true polymorphed and teleported to Manshoon's lair where he revealed that was harnessing the supposedly everlasting bond and power between those who loved one another. He also revealed to her, that upon stealing her spores during this transition, that her spores were actually a manifestation of Yen trying to protect her. During this time, the party's cleric used a wish spell to bring Sarya back in her original form, which tore her from Manshoon's captivity and severed what remained of her connection to Yen.

Not only did her circle of druid change to Witherbloom in this process, but her alignment shifted from chaotic neutral to neutral evil. A part of her was broken, and while she is no longer physically terrifying, she is now something far more dangerous. What was once a quest more for closure then anything else, is now a true, desperate quest for revenge, and to rescue her husband's essence.
