Hana grew up in Vallaki, a wealthy, walled off village of Barovia with strict laws and mandatory community participation. Any and all criticism or resistance to the rules and social norms set in place are considered a direct threat to the wellness of the community as a whole and are punished severely. Hana is not only a citizen here, but she is the daughter of the Baron of Vallaki, a tyrannical man who upholds these laws. At his side, she has a distant, older adopted brother named Izek, a demonic man who enforces these laws with sadistic cruelty. Lastly, she has her mother and younger brother, who are both complicit in the severity of these uncompassionate laws.

 

Unlike her family though, Hana is quite different. The silver dragon's magic has resurfaced in her blood, fundamentally setting her apart from her family. She has a fine layer of silver scales that climb up her back and appear in small spots on her hands that she keeps hidden. Though her father and Izek are cruel, they oddly never sought to harm or disown her for her difference, nor ever raised a hand against her as she grew up. However, Hana knows that it will not likely stay like this as she grows older and gains more political authority over Vallaki.

 

Hana was largely put in charge of helping with Vallaki festivals, and putting on performances for them, weddings, special church services, and funerals. Her fiddle playing, singing, and overall genuine kindness were well received by many Vallaki citizens, although there was always underlying tensions because of her family. Hana did her best to bring real happiness to the people there, but she could never find the time to befriend anyone.

 

The person she was closest to was really not a person at all, but a ghost, an ancestor of hers who became a mentor, and almost a father figure to her. He only goes by the name "A," and was once a General who lead a resistance against Strahd. He has not only helped teach Hana about arcane arts and sorcery but has taught her about history and how to be a good person. On some level, Hana knows that "A" has truly only invested in her because he wants her to defeat Strahd, even though they have grown emotionally closer over the years.

 

With her mentor's help, Hana ran away from Vallaki after an argument with her father over her concerns about Izek. She escaped to Krezk, where she was taken in by the Baron and Baronness and given a warm place to stay and begin to heal from the trauma that Vallaki has left her with. She was a bit closed off at first, but slowly warmed up as she learned more practical life skills, and learned more about different ways of life.

 

She stayed in Krezk for about six months before her friend Ilya, future Baron on Krezk, died due to illness. She was offered an opportunity by a powerful and mysterious Abbot to bring Ilya back from the dead and set out once again to Vallaki to heal him. On her way, she encountered two other player characters who agreed to help her, so as long as she joined them on their own journey. She agreed, and found what she needed to save Ilya, and followed them back to a Vistani camp, where she learned that she truly was destined to kill Strahd.

 

The next day she went back to Krezk with her newly found adventuring group and discovered that Ilya had been saved. She said some brief goodbyes to all of those she learned to love, knowing that she may never get to return. She hopes one day, after she has liberated Vallaki, helped A move on to the afterlife, and killed Strahd, that she may be able to go back to Krezk and live a peaceful life on her own terms.
